If you value old time multi-generatioal stores with tons of local history then you need to visit Hecklers. The fireplace store and hardware store across the street are the most magnificent examples of local knowledge, architecture and history that you can find in the St Louis metro region. And both places are chock full of products and super knowledgeable staff. I went there for one small woodstove part and left a promise to return. You won't find anything approaching this experience on Amazon or the large sterile box stores. America as it was and as many of us wish it at least in part remain.

Hechler’s is one of the best companies we have ever done business with. We’ve recently had several projects that required unique solutions (a new woodstove with unusual chimney pipe configuration just completed, and a repair/new solution for a Rumford fireplace still pending). Everyone at Hechler’s is extremely knowledgeable about their products and installation. They are there for you in every aspect of your project. They are a company with strong integrity. The store has a lot of fireplaces and woodstoves to choose from. Phil Hechler is very knowledgeable about the products they sell. Very nice people to work with. We had a lot of questions and they were all quickly answered to our satisfaction.

We had been searching for a non combustible mantle! We found a beautiful one at Hechler Mainstreet Hearth and Fireplace! It is so realistic to a wooden mantle that no one can tell it is concrete! We are so happy and pleased with our purchase! The sales staff are amazing! Highly recommend Hechler!!

It helps if you do your research prior to visiting. Know what you want, down to the finish and color. There are a lot of displays. Know that the supply-chain issue have negatively impacted the fireplace suppliers. Hecklers does seem to have a large inventory. The building is very interesting. Previously it was a car dealership complete with a car elevator. The building's history is documented on the store walls. Explore.
