We purchased our home in 2015 and as part of our escrow we had the chimney inspected by Grand Old Chimney. They told us we needed a new liner installed and gave us a bid, but the sellers got a lower bid from Chico Fireplace and Wood Stove so they used them for the repairs instead. They put in a new liner and all seemed well. When we used the fireplace, we notice that smoke would often back into the house when we started the fire... not a hugely significant amount, but enough to make the house smell and make it kind of a nuisance to use, so we primarily used our HVAC to heat our home. We assumed this was just a natural process of using a wood burning stove. Well, we decided that we were tired of the insert and wanted to change to a gas insert for ease of use. We listed our old wood burning stove on craigslist, and the person who ended up buying it is a licensed fireplace installer in the area. When he removed the liner from the fireplace, he was surprised and remarked that the liner had been significantly bent. He told us that the installers had bent the liner in order to fit it down the chimney, and that if they had installed it properly, they would have removed a shelf that is located in the fireplace that caused a narrowing in the chimney. But removing the shelf would have involved taking the insert out of the fireplace (the insert weighed probably at least 400 pounds), so instead they bent the liner to fit down the flue. He demonstrated how difficult it was to bend the liner by jumping on the unbent end of the liner and it hardly deformed at all. He told us that it was dangerous that they had bent the liner because it caused a trap for heat and smoke, restricting airflow and that the discoloration of the liner was evidence that the liner had been exposed to very high heat levels. He showed us the adhesive they had used to attach the liner to the stove had actually started to burn away and had caused the seal between the stove and liner to come undone. We brought our concerns to the company and asked for a refund for the work they had done, but they refused to see any fault in the situation, and told us there was no way of knowing what had happened since the stove and liner had been removed from the chimney. So just as a word of warning to people looking for someone to do new installations or repairs, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere. I have been told White glove and A1 are more competent.

After getting four estimates to replace our very old fireplace insert, we went with Chico Fireplace and Wood Stoves because of Ed!! He was so knowledgeable, and helpful in making sure we got the right insert for our fireplace. Not only that, when he came to our house to measure everything, he explained step by step how he would install it in our particular fireplace. I never felt he was in a hurry and wanted to rush through the job!! We are so thankful we went with Ed at chico fireplace and wood stoves! His work ethic and knowledge was phenomenal!!

Chico Fireplace has been great to work with. They worked with us to get the woodstove we wanted at the price we could afford. They shared with us information about the tax credit available. Ed and Dave were our installers. We were very impressed with their desire and prep work to make sure no damage was done to our new floors as they brought the stove in. As they prepped for installation of the stove, they went to great lengths to keep their dust contained so we did not have it scattered all over our home. We asked them if they could help us carry our 400 lb hearthstone into our house to put on our fireplace. They were not only willing but very happy to do that. We have only positive things to say about our entire experience with Chico Fireplace. We highly recommend them.

We were in the market for a fireplace insert upgrade. Ashley greeted us and the had Ed answer questions on a specific model. Ed was very knowledgeable. On the install Ed went way above and beyond in working out any fitment issues. He explained what he was doing and why it needed to be done. Because of him we are looking forward to a nice warm winter. We highly recommend Ed for any installation.

Chico Fireplace came to do a routine tune up on my free standing gas fireplace yesterday. The service person was knowledgeable, through, professional and friendly. He cleaned everything and even touched up the paint on the stove pipe that had been scratched. Definitely 5 stars!
